Nature Collective is hosting four free nature events in October, including a Discovery Tour on Saturday, Oct. 4, and a Wildlife Tour on Saturday, Oct. 11, as well as a Volunteer Restoration Event on Saturday, Oct. 18, and a Fall Festival on Sunday, Oct. 19.
Nature Collective is a local conservation and science education nonprofit organization. They work to restore habitats, provide healthier waters, and increase wildlife diversity. They are dedicated to conserving the land and providing experiences for people to fall in love with nature.
Saturday, Oct. 4 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Discovery Tour: Ages 9+ (Registration Required)
San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center (2710 Manchester Ave., Cardiff-by-the-Sea, CA 92007)
RSVP: https://naturecollective.org/event/discovery-tour-october-4-2025/
Discover the beauty of San Elijo Lagoon: where fresh water and saltwater meet and mix, migratory and resident birds share a sanctuary, and many animals find a home. This guided tour will inspire all to watch and listen for various birds that rest in – and fly across – the salt marsh and mudflats. No matter the season, you can enjoy, photograph, and identify a host of native plants. The Nature Center Loop Trail is accessible, providing fun for all.
Saturday, Oct. 11 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Wildlife Tour: Ages 15+ (Registration Required)
San Elijo Lagoon (meet-up location will be emailed to registered participants)
RSVP: https://naturecollective.org/event/wildlife-tour-october-11-2025/
With autumn in the air, sweaters may come out, and we seek the vibrant fall colors of golden cottonwoods and rose-colored pickleweed. Autumn is the perfect time to explore. We may search prickly pear cactus for cochineal, a tiny insect that produces the brilliant red dye we call carminic acid, used to brighten everything from lipstick to yogurt to artists’ paints. The event is weather permitting. Wildlife is unpredictable; there is no guarantee of what you will see.
Saturday, Oct. 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Volunteer Restoration Event: Ages 6+ (minors with guardians) – Registration Required
San Elijo Lagoon (meet-up location shared before the event)
RSVP: https://naturecollective.org/event/volunteer-restoration-event-october-18-2025/
We need your help to restore precious habitats within the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve and the surrounding areas. By removing invasive plants and helping grow native plants indigenous to the area, you will support a more balanced ecosystem.
Sunday, Oct. 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00p.m.
Fall Festival: All Ages
San Dieguito County Park (1628 Lomas Santa Fe Drive, Del Mar 92014; $3.00 on-site parking available with free streetside parking available)
