Hawthorne Country Store hosts its annual Chick Day on Saturday, March 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Escondido, Fallbrook, and Santee. This annual celebration is the largest in Southern California with more than 115 varieties of baby poultry available.

As the slow food movement continues to gain ground in Southern California, home flocks continue to expand in the hearts and yards of Southern Californians in both rural and urban areas. Hawthorne’s Chick Chick Day offers an educational opportunity for families to learn about raising chickens in their own backyard and the benefits of creating this self-sufficient, homestead approach.

“More and more families are finding that chickens are pets that come with great benefits, such as producing protein, creating fertilizer, and recycling waste,” says Heather Thelen, owner of Hawthorne Country Store. “This is one of our most popular events of the year and we’re happy to be able to bring it back in its original form at all three locations.”

Hundreds of families attend annually to expand their chicken flocks and poultry knowledge. The family-owned and -operated store is committed to flock education and spreading awareness on homesteading trends and topics.

Chick Day will be held at all three Hawthorne Country Store locations – Santee (10845 Woodside Avenue), Fallbrook (2762 S Mission Road), and Escondido (675 W. Grand Avenue).

A Peep Show preview will take place on Friday, March 11 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., offering first peek. Friday’s preview event is a ticketed event and typically sells out weeks in advance. To make a reservation, visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/peep-show-chicken-party-tickets-253445110147.
