Coastal Roots Farm – a nonprofit, organic community farm and education center inspired by Jewish values in Encinitas – announces their 2024 Farm Film & Music Series, designed to bring community together around shared values to protect people and our planet. This year’s series kicks off Thursday, May 23 and runs monthly through September.

The Farm invites families, friends, and the entire community to join them from spring to fall for an entertaining 5-part film series. The series will feature inspiring documentary films, local musicians, and meaningful conversations around equitable food systems, environmental justice, and caring for the planet. Attendees will learn from dedicated activists, scientists, farmers, and politicians about how regenerative agriculture has the potential to save our soil, rebuild our communities, combat climate change, and feed the world.

The first screening on Thursday, May 23 at 7:00 p.m. will be “Common Ground,” the highly anticipated sequel to the juggernaut success documentary, Kiss the Ground, which touched over 1 billion people globally and inspired the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to put $20 billion toward soil health. By fusing journalistic expose’ with deeply personal stories from those on the front lines of the food movement, Common Ground unveils a dark web of money, power, and politics behind our broken food system. The film reveals how unjust practices forged our current farm system in which farmers of all colors are literally dying to feed us. The film profiles a hopeful and uplifting movement of white, black, and indigenous farmers who are using alternative “regenerative” models of agriculture that could balance the climate, save our health, and stabilize America’s economy – before it’s too late.
