Hot Glass & Mixed Media Artist James Stone of Stone and Glass moves popular teaching studio to new industrial space; grand opening celebration slated for Saturday, May 2
San Diego hot glass and mixed media artist James Stone recently moved his popular working and teaching studio to Escondido, 1285 Simpson Way (92029). The new, larger studio provides space for a gallery, where Stone can also offer tours and demos, as well as classes. He teaches three or more classes each week to kids and adults, starting at age 9 and up.
On Saturday, May 2 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Stone will host a grand opening party with demonstrations. Guests can view his latest work; enjoy an insider’s tour, and light refreshments. Reservations are requested.
This spring, Stone has several new glassblowing classes on the schedule, including Flowers from the Furnace, April 10, 17 and 23 at 6:30 p.m. And, Hearts and Flowers for Mom, Mother’s Day weekend, May 9 (12 noon, 1:00, 2:30, 3:30 and 5:00 p.m.) and May 10 (11:00 a.m., 12 noon, 1:30, 2:30 and 4:00 p.m.); see the full class calendar/schedule for availability.
In addition to Stone’s popular classes, he also does commissioned work – custom glass pieces, architectural metal and glass designs and handmade glass gifts. He recently designed and developed several pieces for the new Oceana Coastal Kitchen at the Catamaran Resort, including sconces throughout the restaurant and the ceiling sculpture in one of the private dining rooms.
The Stone and Glass gallery is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Sundays through Wednesdays by appointment. All classes are by reservation. And, tours and demonstrations are by appointment. For more information, visit www.stoneandglass.com.
