KAPN Consulting, in partnership with Afghanistan Combat Female Veterans (ACFV), is hosting a two-part Women Combat Veteran Workshop and Veterans Business Resource Fair Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015 and Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, respectively. These events offer an excellent opportunity for female combat veterans to gain needed support and resources.

The North County event will take place at the Tri-City Wellness Center in Carlsbad Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where a variety of transitional veteran experts will participate in two panel discussions.

The resource fair will be at the Liberty Station Conference Center in Point Loma Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fair will serve as a fundraising event with wine tasting by ONEHOPE. Guests can also purchase gifts by Touchstone Crystal and Mary Kay, with a portion of the proceeds going to American Suicide Prevention Association. Female veterans will also have an opportunity to receive one-on-one consultation with a plethora of experts – from finance to real estate. There will also be counseling for post-traumatic stress or other traumas suffered while they were in the military.

The workshop, and fundraising component, are new this year as part of the annual resource fair for veterans, hosted by KAPN Consulting, an expert consulting company focusing on helping female veterans. ACFV is a non-profit veteran organization serving female combat veterans.

Female veterans transition out of the military very different from their male counterparts, yet there are few to no programs or services to assist them. Female veteran statistics include:

  • The current percentage of female U.S. Veterans is 10%.
  • The average age of women Veterans is 48 years, compared to 63 years for their male counterparts.
  • PTS, hypertension and depression were the top three diagnostic categories for women Veterans treated by the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).
  • About one in five women seen at the VHA responded “yes” when screened for Military Sexual Trauma (MST).
  • Female veterans are the fastest growing population among our nation’s homeless, and according to the California Research Bureau (CRB) a significant number of those surveyed stated they were unaware of state and federal services and benefits.

Businesses throughout San Diego will assist veterans with job skills, available employment positions and education and career opportunities. There are still booths available for interested businesses that would like to hire veterans. The cost to participate is $125. All proceeds support continuing veteran support programs like the workshop and resource fair. Sponsorship is available; for more details, email [email protected].

The Liberty Station Conference Center is located at 2600 Laning Road (92106), and the Tri-City Wellness Center is located at  6250 El Camino Real, Carlsbad (92009).

Both events are free for veterans.
