Spreckels Organ Society, a non-profit organization curating concerts and performances in the heart of Balboa Park, is inviting the public for a one-of-a-kind Insiders Tour of the inner-workings of the iconic Spreckels Organ, as well as a special brunch, on Saturday, Sept. 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
There will be a continental brunch, on-stage seating, and an exclusive performance by San Diego Civic Organist Raúl Prieto Ramírez. Curator Dale Sorenson will begin with an introduction to the mechanics of the Spreckels Organ, followed by the “Insiders Tour” of the Spreckels Organ (tour requires guests to be able to navigate stairs and tight spaces). This annual event is the only time the public will be allowed into the windchest while the organ is playing.
Tickets are $60 and can be purchased in advance via the Spreckels Organ Society website.
“Spreckels Organ Society’s Insiders Tour will enable organ fans to take a very rare look at the inner workings of this magnificent instrument,” said Randy Ward, Spreckels Organ Society Board President. “Included in the tour is an opportunity to enter the organ’s Wind Chest – the ‘heartbeat of the Organ.’ Very few people are allowed into this pressurized vault, so this opportunity should not be missed if you are a true Spreckels Organ aficionado.”
The Spreckels Organ Pavilion also hosts weekly concerts each Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Through the generosity of the City of San Diego, the weekly Spreckels Organ Society concerts at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion are presented at no charge in accordance with the 1915 Deed of Gift whereby the brothers John and Adolph Spreckels gave the organ and pavilion to the City of San Diego. Donations are always accepted.
Set in the beautiful backdrop of Balboa Park’s open-air venue at 2125 Pan American Road, performances bring a one-of-a-kind experience for guests. The elevated music venue brings world-class musical artists for San Diegans and visitors to enjoy, for free, on the largest outdoor musical instrument in the world!
