San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum is excited to announce Water Ways, a new interactive and educational exhibit for young children and their caregivers, opening Tuesday, May 6.

Located in the Museum’s outdoor Trudy Bronner Discovery Garden, the new exhibit allows guests to manipulate and play with the flow of water. Through hands-on exploration, children can turn water valves on and off, launch balls into a water vortex, and experiment with dams. The new water table will also include Escondido landmarks such as Lake Hodges, Escondido Water Treatment Plant, City Hall, and more, allowing families to make a real-world connection on how clean drinking water is sourced from lakes and rivers and flows into cities to support communities.

Central to the Museum’s mission to spark a love of learning, the new exhibit provides hands-on learning opportunities to children and invites them to learn about the importance of water conservation and how they can save water by making just a few little adjustments in their daily lives.

“We wanted to create an exhibit that inspires STREAM skills through fun and immersive water challenges. While playing in this exhibit, we hope children enhance their perceptual development through sensory play, develop their fine motor skills, practice engineering principles by changing the flow and direction of water, and recognize water as an important resource that should be conserved. We ultimately hope to build foundational developmental skills that many kids will need as they continue their education,” said Whitney Raser, Director of Education at San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum.

Water Ways is one of the many ways San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum continues to provide engaging, hands-on experiences that inspire curiosity and learning. The Museum looks forward to welcoming families to explore, experiment, and make a splash while discovering the vital role water plays in our everyday lives.

Water Ways is included with Museum admission.
