Discovery + Wildlife Tour, Family Fun Day & Volunteer Restoration Project **

San Diego, Calif. (May 1, 2024) – Nature Collective is hosting four free events in May, including a Discovery Tour on Saturday, May 4, a Family Fun Day on May 5, a Wildlife Tour on May 11 and a Volunteer Restoration project on Saturday, May 18.

Nature Collective is a local conservation and science education nonprofit organization. They work to restore habitats and provide healthier waters and greater wildlife diversity. They are dedicated to conserving the land and providing experiences for people to fall in love with nature.

Saturday, May 4 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Discovery Tour: Family Friendly, Ages 9+ – Accessible Trail – Registration Required

San Elijo Lagoon: Don’t miss out on the captivating allure of the San Elijo Lagoon, a unique crossroads where fresh and saltwater mingle and a haven for both migratory and resident birds—a spectrum of wildlife calls this sanctuary home. Our guided tour is a golden opportunity to observe and learn about the myriad birds that inhabit and traverse the salt marsh and mudflats. And let’s not forget the abundant wildflowers waiting to be admired and captured in your lens. The Nature Center Loop Trail is accessible, providing fun for all. Volunteer Linda Jones leads this nature experience.

Family Fun Day: Family Friendly – Accessible Location – Registration Suggested

San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center: 2710 Manchester Ave, Encinitas, CA 92007
San Diego families are invited to join Family Fun Day. The May event will feature Flowers. Enjoy hands-on activities, from craft-making to animal encounters. Nature gets the spotlight with Nature Collective and San Diego County Parks + Recreation rangers with family-friendly experiences, live presentations, and more. Every month, Nature Collective features a new topic for all the fun. Each Family Fun Day includes TRACK Trails activity guides. Plus, young attendees can earn a Junior Ranger badge. Co-presented by Nature Collective + County of San Diego Parks and Recreation.

Wildlife Tour: Adults – Accessible Location (sandy terrain) – Registration Required

San Elijo Lagoon (meet-up location will be emailed to registered participants)
Get ready for a leisurely, free-flowing exploration that will leave you in awe! Experience an explosion of colors, showcasing some of the most dazzling wildflowers. Recent tours have unveiled the enchanting phacelia, with flowers coiling like a curled scorpion’s tail in shades of violet-blue. You may also witness the delicate vines of the trumpet-shaped wild morning glory and the stunning coast fiddleneck, its tiny yellow flowers shining like bright stars amid the grasses.

Volunteer Restoration Event: Family Friendly; Ages 6+ – Registration Required

San Elijo Lagoon: Location to determined
One of many restoration projects in need of help to restore precious habitats within San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve and the surrounding areas. From removing invasive plants to helping grow native plants indigenous to the area, San Diegans are invited to help nature thrive, which benefits wildlife and our communities.
