Coastal Roots Farm, a non-profit Jewish community farm and education center, invites “farmers-in-training” – children in grades Pre-K-5 – to experience the Farm’s unique outdoor space with After-School and Seasonal Farm Camp.
After a successful camp run throughout the pandemic, offering outdoor education during a time when many parents were tasked with virtual teaching, the Farm served as a childcare solution for families all while fostering students’ inner farmer.
After-School Farm Camp has been modified to cater to the current community needs with immersive outdoor experiences for kids. The next two sessions include a 4-week session from February 28 to March 24 and a 6-week session from April 18 to May 26. After-School Farm Camp is from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., with pick-up and drop-off at each families’ convenience. Pricing and details for each week are available on the registration form on the Farm’s website.
“Teaching kids where food comes from, why it matters, and how they can help change the world are our goals with our educational programming at Coastal Roots Farm,” said Sharone Oren, Education Manager.
Farm Camp activities include:
- Farm “chores” – digging, weeding, transplanting, composting, and harvesting
- Farm cooking and crafts – pressing flowers, drying herbs, painting, and making salad
- Learning about how food is grown
- Science experiments with seeds and soil
- Singing farm songs, hearing stories, and mindful practice of listening to nature
- Snack time, including healthy, colorful treats
In addition to the After-School Farm Camp, Seasonal Farm Camp is also available for kids to interact and engage with the outdoors during school breaks. Spring Break Camp has two sessions – Session 1: April 4-8 and Session 2: April 11-15.
Summer Break Camp offers eight weekly sessions from June to August, excluding the week of July 11-15. Seasonal Farm Camp is from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with extended care available. Camps are $360 per week with partial and full scholarships, as well as sibling discounts, offered.
