Coastal Roots Farm, a nonprofit Jewish community farm and education center in Encinitas, welcomes community members of all backgrounds to celebrate the magic and meaning of trees during its 10th Annual Tu B’Shvat Food Forest Festival, Sunday, Feb 2, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Bring the whole family and embrace the joy and wisdom of the holiday. Let’s celebrate our beloved trees, one branch at a time!
Step into the Farm’s vibrant Food Forest and enjoy live music, delicious local food and drink, Jewish learning and crafts, yoga, and opportunities for all ages to dig into the soil and nurture the land. Rooted in Jewish tradition, Tu B’Shvat is known as the New Year, or Birthday of the Trees, and honors the vital role trees play in our lives. Trees not only provide us with food and shade, but also inspire, comfort, and sustain us, spiritually and physically.
SDG&E funded the tree plants for the event – more than 50 fruit trees. Additional sponsors for the event include EDCO.
The Pay-What-You-Can Farm Stand (on Saxony) will be closed during the event, but there will be a “pop-up” Farm Stand taking place in the Food Forest where the festival will take place, offering fresh, organic produce festival attendees.
Tickets are a suggested donation of $20 for adults and $10 for children. Everyone is welcome and nobody is turned away for inability to pay. All donations fund the Farm’s year-round impact Nourishing Community. Due to limited capacity, pre-registration is required.
